Fabric Buys

I'm feeling a lot calmer today than when I last posted. I made it to the end of the week and finished off with a fabric purchase, that always helps. Mum and I went to the 'Sew What's Crafty Exp' in Bundaberg last night and it was delightful. However I was very restrained keeping in mind all the projects already on the go and only made one purchase.

This pack of 5 fat quarters called to me so with no project in mind I bought them. Simple as that. Now I can enjoy the search for a project that answers the fabrics.

Also here is the fabric that arrived in the mail the other day. All precut and ready to sew. The horseshoe fabric was purchased for another project so I may need to find more now. When does something become a WIP? When you acquire the fabric or when you actually begin cutting/sewing?

I have a couple of things to get done next week. Finish off a mug mat for FIL's birthday and applique some horse fabric to a white towel for my niece's birthday. Her white towel is her comforter and is looking shall we say, worse for wear. She's horse crazy so we're hoping she might just adopt the new towel.

Stuck for a Title

Firstly Happy Belated Mothers' Day to all. The silver envelope, which I opened on Sunday, held the cutest fridge magnets. Pictures of kittens smiling and poking tongues. Also a sock for my mobile. It's such a big phone (suitable for country areas) it was hard to find a large enough sock.

Sorry but I'm all out of titles and no quilting content as such. It's starting off as one of those weeks and it's not slowing down. My schedule has been so busy that even the housework is being neglected. It's one of those weeks where you just have to 'ride it out' and start fresh next week.

I did have a nice surprise in the mail again today. Can you call it a surprise when you buy something online, it gets lost in your memory, and then you remember buying it when it arrives? I'll take pics when I can get home before dusk and go outside in natural lighting. My indoor lights are shocking as previous photos will prove.


On the bright side I just sent an email off to Margaret at Four Seasons Quilt Swap to register for the 'Summer' Swap.


We also have a new addition over in the dog kennels. Our dogs are working dogs to help muster the cattle so from time to time we start training a new puppy to join the ranks. Isn't he handsom.

Times up, lots of jobs to get done before bedtime. Maybe I can squeeze in visiting a couple more blogs first?

Fabulous Friday

What started out as a ho hum day because I had to work a full day instead of a half day, turned out to be a great day after all. Today was our groups 'patchwork day' and normally I can get there around lunch for a few hours but not today. However I did manage to catch up with a couple of the girls when I rushed up after work, not to mention have a cuppa and a chat.

Kerry was busy sewing the blocks together for our group quilt which is to be raffled to raise funds for cancer research. Pop over to Mt. Perry Quilters to check it out. Fingers crossed I can get there in a fortnight. Some of my sewing time last weekend was spent making the strip borders for the quilt.

The other sewing time was for mug mats for Mothers Day. Of course I forgot (again) to take a photo of the one for my MIL and she received that Tuesday but here is the one for my mother. The background wall is actually apricot.

I have five other tops made that were to be for a Cent Sale but it was postponed till 'Christmas in July' so that gives me a little breathing space.

Getting back to my fabulous friday, after catching up with the girls, I arrived home to find not 1, not 2, but 3 lovely treats in the mail. 1st is this Spider-Man panel.

My intention is to sandwich and quilt it into a wall hanging for my nephew. He's crazy about Spider-Man and has ordered a Spider-Man cake for his birthday. I like to plan ahead as his birthday isn't till February, and any excuse to purchase fabric, right?

The 2nd was the lates edition of Australian Patchwork and Quilting which I will sit down with a cuppa and browse through tomorrow when I can really relax.

And the 3rd (and most exciting) was the silver envelope from DD, for Mothers Day. I'm being very strong and saving it for Sunday.

Right now DH and DS are watching the Centenary Match between Australia and New Zealand so I've got some quiet time to catch up on all the blog news. I'm not really sure which WIP to bring out next. The benefit of having several I guess is that there will always be one I'm itching to finish. That's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it.

Spring Quilt News

I received an email from Gabriele yesterday to say that she has received her Spring Quilt from me. As I only posted it last Monday, I was surprised but relieved that she had received it. So now I can post a picture of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Four Seasons Quilt Swap. I love my new quilt from Nancy and loved making one for someone else. The element of surprise is delicious.

I managed some sewing over the weekend. As well as working on a border for a group project, I managed to make the tops of 8 "mug mats" from Tazzie's pattern. Now to get them finished for Mothers' Day. Photos once they are finished I think.

Spring Is Here, Woohoo!

Actually we're in the middle of Autumn here but Spring was in my mailbox yesterday. How excited was I after being at work all day, driving 40 minutes to get home and there it was in the mailbox. A parcel all the way from Ohio. I drove the 2km to the house, rushed inside and opened the parcel to find this gorgeous quilt made by the lovely Nancy. I'm still beeming. It was nearly dark by then so I had to wait till this arvo to take a photo and show it off. (Mine will be ready to post Monday.)

I'm so pleased it was possible to join the Four Seasons Quilt Swap. Nancy's quilt will be taking pride of place in the sewing room which is also where the computer lives, and help brighten the place up.

More happy news, Gina has joined the PIF fun. I now have one spot left so who wants to be lucky last.

We have our local Agricultural Show this Saturday. It has everything from working dogs, show dogs, horse events, rodeo, pony club, woodchop, and sideshow alley. They always have an excellent display of cookery, craft, flowers, produce, photography and artworks in the pavillion. I only have a couple of entries as everything I've made lately has been a gift and the roses have been deglected but there's always next year.

My Spring Quilt is coming along nicely. The border is on, just have to finish handsewing it down and then some embelishing. Here's a sneak peak. (Sorry about the shadow)

I spent the weekend in the sewing room which also happens to be the dumping room for anything else that doesn't have a home. Great progress was made with a good load for the real dump, and other things finally finding homes. I also purchased this bookshelf and six containers.

As you might be able to see, one has leftover wool and the other five are ready and waiting to be filled. That won't be a problem. I intend to purchase another bookshelf this week before they run out. It feels so good to get things tidy but keeping it that way is another challenge.

Keeping Up To Date

I've finally taken the plunge and signed up with bloglines. Toowoomba Quilters posted about this back in February and it's taken me this long to get around to doing it. Now I'm wondering "why did I take so long". I can visit one place and catch up with all the latest blogs and not miss out on anyones. As I'm still only finding my way around this marvel, I'm pretty pleased with myself.

Lisa headed off back to Uni straight after an early lunch today so I'll be like a cat on a hot tin roof until I know she's arrived safely. Tomorrow is her birthday so she got to celebrate a day early but i'm sure her friends will help her celebrate again tomorrow. I thought I would make our famous, no fail, mud cake for dessert but ...... when I looked for eggs, the last one was eaten for breakfast. The kitchen scales are no more so I had to guess the butter. The result was a very rich, brownie type dessert that I served with ice cream and cream. Quite delicious but also quite heavy and a little went a long way.

We've been having very strong winds the last few days and today is overcast as well with a heavy shower before lunch and by the looks of things, more to come. Curling up on the lounge with a good book would be ideal but I have a few other jobs around the house to get done first.

I think I'll just add another couple of favourite blogs first.

The Icing on the Cake

Or more likely it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Yesterday afternoon topped off one of those weeks. Hubby managed to bog the dozer in a soak hole hidden in the long grass. He, Lisa and I then spent the arvo till the sun went down, trying everything we could think of to get it out but it's still there. We've now called in bigger machinery to the rescue.

The week started well enough with my birthday. A nice new warm pair of slippers for winter, cute cat ornaments and a lovely meal cooked by Lisa. Plus a chocolate birthday cake which I didn't have room for after the beautiful dessert. Made up for it the next day. And we do have our telephone operational again after a five week ordeal. Then throw in a broken part on the chainsaw and a broken part on a tractor implement. When they were fixed and ready to work again, add a punctured tractor tyre. Now the dozer.

Of course after finishing the curtains, there has been no more sewing. I'm off to baste my Spring Swap Quilt and start quilting it today (fingers crossed). Then it's off to work for the rest of the week. I am so looking forward to school holidays next week.

While I was taking a photo of the "new" cats, Jayne just wanted to make sure she wasn't left out.

Fleur was blending in near by, keeping an eye on things.

Happy Easter

I've been having a nice quiet break over easter if that can include the washing and ironing. On Friday I managed to cut out the pieces for my Spring Quilt and Saturday I was able to get quite a bit of sewing done. Here is just a sneak peak.


Both Lisa and Cam are home now and while Cam is helping is father outside, Lisa has been doing a bit of Uni work and keeping me company. Today I'm running up some long awaited curtains for the kitchen windows. Nice bright yellow and orange sunflowers. Pictures another day when they're hung.

Cross Number 1). from the WIP List

Here is the completed 4 and 9 patch floral I have been working on. I am please to say it was completed last Friday, the label sewn on Saturday and gifted to my cousin for her 40th birthday. Please excuse my photographic skills. The weather was bleak outside and space limited indoors so I asked Cameron to hold the quilt up while I took the pic. With not much room to move and an impatient assistant, I couldn't get the right angle but I assure you the quilt is square. The colour isn't true either under the flouro light. As well I had to use my son's camera as mine is playing up. I'm just glad it was ready in time.

We still have no landline telephone and the frustration is mounting. We keep following it up and the days keep ticking over. We're also in the process of changing mobile handsets over for better reception, but that also seems to be a slow process.

Saturday morning was spent shopping with Cam. He was previously boarding and has now moved out on his own so almost everything except the kitchen sink was on the shopping list. Of course being the independant young man that he is, I could only guide him so far. The hardest part of childbirth so far has been letting go when they leave the nest.

Lisa will be home this Friday for Uni Easter break and Cam is having a weeks leave also, so we'll be back to full house for the week. The fabric for my spring quilt swap is all ready and I'm keen to get started on that now. And I'm still hand sewing english hexagons. I would love a week straight of patchwork only, no housework or bookwork and all meals provided. Here's to dreams.
